Deadline looms for SoonerCare members to choose SoonerSelect health plans, says OHCA - KOKH FOX25

Most SoonerCare members are going to start getting their health care services covered in a new way starting April 1, 2024.

The deadline for open enrollment with the new program, SoonerSelect, is quickly approaching.

The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) says that the deadline is March 10, 2024, and if SoonerCare members who qualify for SoonerSelect do not choose a plan by March 10th, the agency will auto-assign them one.

According to OHCA, about 80% of current SoonerCare members are shifting to SoonerSelect in April,

"It's really a new direction for us in providing quality health care options to Oklahomans who qualify for sooner care which are Medicaid benefits in Oklahoma," said OHCA's Chief Executive Officer, Ellen Buettner.

The OHCA says those who are shifting have already received personal letters containing detailed instructions on accessing and selecting their preferred plans.

Under SoonerSelect, there are several different health and dental plans, and the OHCA wants members to be able to pick a plan that fits their specific needs,

"One of the reasons it's so important for them to reach out and log into their member portal to go ahead and select a plan that fits their specific needs are so they'll be able to assess what the different plans are offering in terms of value-added benefits," Buettner said.

To find information on the different plans, people can look online, or speak with an expert over the phone,

"We have individuals that are standing by ready and that number is 1-800-987-7767, and it's important to pick that option five to connect you with a choice counselor, and they're really trained to walk through what the specific individual or family needs are and they understand what the plans are offering in terms of base benefits, but also those value adds," said Buettner.

Once they decide on a plan, they can select that plan online via their member portal on SoonerCare.org, as long as it is before the deadline,

"If they don't select a plan by March 10, there'll be auto-assigned by the agency," Buettner said, "But then after that they'll have up to 90 days to select a plan if they come in and they wish to change their plan."
